Teresa Merritt
1956-11-22 2007-02-18TERESA J. (BLEVINS)
Teresa Jane Blevins Merritt passed away unexpectedly at her home in Manteo, North Carolina, Feb. 18, 2007. Born in Jenkins, Ky., Nov. 22, 1956, Teresa was co-owner of Sam & Omie's Restaurant in Nags Head and a 1974 graduate of Mt. Lebanon High School. Her accomplishments and memberships are too numerous too list. She lived her life to the fullest - an avid sports fisherman, a dancing fool, and she loved to laugh - but more than anything, she loved her daughter Emma. Teresa leaves behind a grieving and heartbroken family: her husband, Michael A. Merritt, and daughter Emma Kathryn Merritt of Manteo; stepsons, Chris Merritt of Colington, NC and Ryan Merritt and wife Doreen of Manasquan, N.J.; her mother, Margaret Blevins of Pittsburgh; her mother-in-law, Mary Kathryn Merritt of Elizabeth City, NC; her sister, Durinda Blevins of Manteo; brother, Steven Blevins and wife Jodye, and sister Nancy Blevins of Pittsburgh; sister-in-law, Pam Merritt Nance and husband Bill of Nags Head, NC; brother-in-law, John Merritt and wife Amy of Camden, NC; nephews, Daniel Blevins, great nephew Hayden Blevins and Matthew Blevins; and niece, Amy Kulak, great niece Isabelle Kulak. Teresa also leaves behind so many dear and wonderful friends, all of whom loved her so much and have rallied behind the family. She was a kind, generous and caring person who took care of those around her, gave whatever was necessary to whomever was in need, and donated money and time to anyone who asked. In that spirit, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Outer Banks Cancer Support Group, c/o Lisa Penosky P.O. Box 3384, Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948 or blood donations may be made in her honor. A memorial service was held Friday, February 23, 2007 at St. Andrews By-The-Sea Episcopal Church in Nags Head NC by the Rev. Charles E.B. Gill. A celebration of Teresa's life, in the manner she would have wanted, followed the memorial service at Owen's Restaurant. TWIFORD'S COLONY CHAPEL OF MANTEO is assisting the family. When I think of Teresa I think of laughter. She always looked at the fun side of everything. I will never forget the summer at Stone Harbor with her and the adventures we had. You are missed old friend.
