1956-02-08 2013-12-16LOUGHREN JOAN MEISNER
Joan, known to most people as Joanie, died peacefully Monday, December 16, 2013, in New Smyrna, Florida. Joanie grew up in Mount Lebanon and graduated from Mount Lebanon High School in 1974. Following the career path of her father and mother, Joanie attended Ohio Northern University, where she received her pharmacy degree. She returned to Pittsburgh and worked with her parents, Jim and Gloria Meisner, at Meisner's Pharmacy in Bethel Park. She loved to ski at Seven Springs, which she often did with her father. Eventually, the warm weather beckoned and she moved to Florida, where she married, and raised her daughter, Christina Loughren. Joanie loved watching the Steelers play and Sidney Crosby skate. Her favorite Pittsburgh spots were Mineo's Pizza and Freddie's in Bethel Park. Joanie's sunny disposition throughout her life was a delight to all she met. Joanie is survived by her adored daughter, Christina Loughren of Tampa, Florida; her mother, Gloria Meisner of Gibsonia, PA; sister, Lorene (Meisner) Smith and her husband, Bill of New Smyrna Florida; and brother, Dennis Meisner, M.D., and his wife, Susan and their children Robert, Stephen, Lauren, and Katherine. A service will be held Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 11 a.m. at SETTLE WILDER FUNERAL HOME/CHAPEL, 406 South Orange Street, New Smyrna, Florida 32186. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Multiple Sclerosis National Society, Florida Chapter, 2701 Maitland Center Parkway, Suite 100, Maitland, FL 32751. Joan was a wonderful, smart, friendly, kind person, and beautiful as well. I am sorry she had to live with MS for so long, but she did pack in a lot of good living. I am concerned that so many classmates developed Multiple Sclerosis. We seem to have had a very high rate in our graduating class.
