Like A Comet
Blazing 'Cross The Evening Sky
Gone Too Soon

Like A Rainbow
Fading In The Twinkling Of An Eye
Gone Too Soon

Shiny And Sparkly
And Splendidly Bright
Here One Day
Gone One Night

Like The Loss Of Sunlight
On A Cloudy Afternoon
Gone Too Soon

Like A Castle
Built Upon A Sandy Beach
Gone Too Soon

Like A Perfect Flower
That Is Just Beyond Your Reach
Gone Too Soon

Born To Amuse, To Inspire, To Delight
Here One Day
Gone One Night

Like A Sunset
Dying With The Rising Of The Moon

Rob Aldisert - June 7th, 2024
I am adding this tribute many years after Bill’s passing. Bill arrived in Lebo during high school, like a force of nature, from Switzerland, where he learned to play soccer. I knew him as a good friend and guitarist in various bands during school and as an all-around insane person. I miss him.
Bryan Denney - September 15th, 2010

He always had my back on the field.

Sandy (Burello) Seeley - September 14th, 2010
Bill was part of the group I hung out with in high school-- sweet personality, lots of fun to be around & a smile that wouldn't quit... gone too young...

Jim Malarkey - July 30th, 2010

In Columbia he was the Director of Product Managers with Flextronics International. While very successful in his professional career, Bryan was best known as the life of the party. A good time was never far from him. Bryan was a passionate Pittsburgh sports fan and an avid lifelong golfer. He was a member of Mid Carolina Country Club. To those who loved him, he was a loving family man, a non-judgmental and loyal friend, and a man full of compassion who would do anything for others. His family will remember him dancing with Terry, watching a Steelers game, telling a joke at the 19th hole, or checking in on his kids and grandkids. Jamie Cummings - February 4th, 2017

January 07, 2017I am heartbroken at this news and share my deepest sympathies and condolences with the Asbury family. Bryan was such a wonderful person and a great friend. He was an absolutely outstanding hockey player, a great teammate, and always had your back in heated ice hockey games. He was just a born leader and so much fun to be with , whether we went to Penguin games together or other school events. I was so thrilled to be able to re-engage with him, after we all went our separate ways after college, when he attended our recent high school reunion a few years ago. To his family, rest assured there are many broken hearts here in Pittsburgh, Mt. Lebanon and across the country where our alumni reside.  Rest well my dear friend, you played the game of life well, and keep those skates sharpened until we meet again....Jamie Cummings

Obituary:
Adam Barr - October 13th, 2010
Thanks to all for the kind words about my brother. It's very good to know he is remembered by his classmates.

One of you mentioned the tennis team. I remember vividly the way he played. Lots of fire, never an ounce of give-up. Nice to think about those times now.

Jack Rodney - October 12th, 2010
I was delighted to hear about this month's reunion until I looked through the list and saw all the deceased markers. I knew Phil in Cub Scouts, at Temple, and particularly in senior year homeroom.  What a place to befriend someone.  Even though we hadn't seen each other since then, I occasionally thought about Phil--always as the kind, caring guy he was.  I hate to say "was" about Phil.

David Drossman - September 24th, 2010

I met Phil when we played on the tennis team together.  What a competitor.  We had many a battles on the courts.  He was a great guy.

Ivy Childs - October 8th, 2010
Phil was so very nice.  I'm sad to hear of his passing.
Mitchell Burke - March 29th, 2010
The one sad thing about periodic reunions is learning of the passing of old friends. Though I have lost touch with most I nevertheless remember the good times. Phil and I were not only classmates at Mt. Lebanon, but we were classmates at Temple Emanuel as well. Phil was a great guy – a warm-hearted friend to all. I will miss him and remember him today, the first day of Passover with the lighting of a Yahrzeit candle.

Obituary: Mary Kay Eichinger / Police officer with nose for financial crimes July 28, 1956 - Nov. 29, 2012

December 4, 2012 12:15 am

inhareBy Joe Smydo / Pittsburgh Post-GazetteMary Kay Eichinger worked as an emergency medical technician and considered a career in medicine, but she found her niche -- and an outlet for her special skills -- when she shifted to law enforcement

Ms. Eichinger, 56, of Mt. Lebanon, who as the municipality's first female police officer and had a nose for financial crimes, died Thursday after a battle with cancer.

Ms. Eichinger's interest in financial cases could have stemmed from her father, a certified public account and graduate of the Wharton School."She was very, very good at solving problems," her sister, Barbara Eichinger of Mt. Lebanon, said.

Ms. Eichinger was born July 28, 1956, in Harrisburg, a daughter of Donald J. and Kay Romansky Eichinger.

Her family moved to Mt. Lebanon when she was 9. She graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School in 1974 and took classes at Community College of Allegheny County and University of Pittsburgh.

She was working at Medical Rescue Team South and considering a medical degree when she took the police exam, her sister said. Hired in August 1981, she was the department's first female officer, Lt. Aaron Lauth said.

"She was a tough person, one you knew you really couldn't mess around with," Lt. Lauth said. At the same time, she was known for her compassion, especially for unwanted animals, he said.

Ms. Eichinger worked as a patrol officer for 10 years, then shifted to the investigative services unit. There, she liked to investigate financial crimes, which brought unique challenges.

Financial crimes "really don't have borders," Lt. Lauth said.

In 2002, Ms. Eichinger received the officer-of-the-year award from the Pittsburgh chapter of the International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators for arresting 24 people, most of them from Detroit and Pittsburgh, on fraud charges. Lt. Lauth said Ms. Eichinger was a runner-up for the national award that year.

In 1994, one of Ms. Eichinger's cases involved a North Braddock woman who was using her 10- and 12-year-old daughters to commit fundraising fraud and other crimes door-to-door in various municipalities, including Mt. Lebanon.

"This is the perfect scam," Ms. Eichinger said at the time, describing the girls as "the cutest little things. They are adorable."

A 1999 case involved a school crossing guard who was struck by a hit-and-run driver. The crossing guard recalled the last four digits of the red car's license plate. According to a news report, Ms. Eichinger identified the driver after scouring 18 months of police reports involving red cars.

"She was tenacious," District Judge Blaise Larotonda, who retired from the police department with Ms. Eichinger in 2003, said. "She remembered everything. It amazed me. She had a memory on her and ways to connect things and solve things that were just unbelievable."

Ms. Eichinger, who also worked on the District Attorney's Narcotics Enforcement Team, retired with the rank of senior police officer. She later worked as a fraud investigator for Dollar and Citizens banks.

Services will be held in the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery mausoleum chapel at 10:30 a.m. today. Memorials to Animal Friends or the St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Anne Church in Castle Shannon.

Jeff Ridgway - September 6th, 2014
I remember Mary Kay as a friendly and outgoing girl in my English class.  I also remember at a party, where she urged me to chomp into a Jalepeno, insisting that it would be OK!  When I got a mouth full of burning pepper, she laughed & laughed.  Doesn't surprise me that she became a police detective.  I'm very sorry to see her pass away far, far too soon, but I'm happy to hear that she had such a positive effect on the community as Mt. Lebanon police officer.
Tom Hill - September 1st, 2014
Mary Kay was one of my dearest friends. We met in the Mt Lebanon Aquaclub in 5th or 6th grade and shared many good times through high school and for a few years after graduation. I was so happy to see her again at the last reunion, and was hoping to see more of her when I moved back to Pittsburgh two years ago. The world is a grayer, sadder place without her. Attached is a more recent picture of Mary Kay which her sister sent me. Rest in peace, my friend.
Patty Dreven - July 7th, 2014
I was so sad when I read this in the Pittsburgh paper.  She was in my homeroom and I remember her as a very cool yet very nice & kind girl.  Rest in Peace.
Linda Lammert - July 12th, 2013
I am so sad to see this.  I lost track of MaryKay when I moved away after 7th grade. I had lived a few doors away  for 2yrs.  I went to many of her swim meets-what a bullet in the water, and also with her family for a summer trip to the Jersey shore before I moved. With the 40th coming up I thought I'd check the alumni site & sad to read that 2 of my childhood friends are gone(also Flynn Hall).. I wish I hadn't lost touch.

Timothy Halen

Birth Date: 1956-06-27
Graduation year: 1974
Deceased Date: 2022-11-28
Obituary:
Timothy Halen 66, of Charleston, passed away surrounded by family on Monday, November 28th, 2022. Tim was born June 29th, 1956 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Richard and Joan Halen.

Tim passed away the day before his 36th wedding anniversary to the love of his life, Mary Margaret. They have two daughters, Maggie and Emily. He was a devoted husband, doting father, and philomath. He instilled a passion for learning in his daughters; he delighted in reading to them every evening when they were children and taking them to Lowe's for crafting class on Saturday mornings. He was endlessly proud of their accomplishments.

Tim always had a joke to share in his wallet-he loved making people laugh. He was not afraid to talk about or wear his opinions on his clothes: shirts, buttons, head scarves, masks. He was a lifelong Steelers fan and lovingly referred to them as the "Squealers" during off years. His famous from scratch lasagna made any occasion special. For years, he fried turkeys on Thanksgiving for friends and family members.

Tim is preceded in death by his father, Richard Montgomery Halen of Pittsburgh, PA and his mother-in-law, Virginia Ann Hager of Charleston. Tim is survived by his wife, Mary Margaret Halen of Charleston, daughter Maggie (Patrick) Wheeler of Charleston, daughter Emily Halen of Charleston, mother Joan Stabile Halen of New Bern, NC, siblings Miriam (Mike) Beckman of New Bern, NC, Richard (Kim) Halen of Budd Lake, NJ, Anne (Steve) Kouri of New Braunfels, TX, Gregory (Jennifer) Halen of Florence, AL, Joanie Halen of Kennesaw, GA, uncle David (Charlotte) Stabile of Pittsburgh, PA, many nieces and nephews, and cats P.J. and Cleo.

Tim did not wish to have a service. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation be made to The West Virginia Democratic Party

I left Mt Lebo (and was moved to FL after my mom died that year) at the end of 7th grade, but always remembered Flynn as one of my fun friends..as the 40th comes up I thought I'd look at the alumni site..  I am so sad to see her  name in the memorials.  so smart, so athletic and good friend for my short time at Mellon..I wish I hadn't lost touch with her..

Debbie March (was Ward) - September 13th, 2010
Flynn was a fantastic next door neighbor, with a great sense of Humor.  She also had great insight into people as well.  I was new to the area when I started high school, and she made me feel welcome and at home.  We had many late nights, sitting in our windows (our houses were that close), she would play the guitar and I would sing Stairway to Heaven and American Pie.  Flynn was a great womens athelete and I was always just in awe watching her.

I miss you Flynn see you in Heaven.
Alexandra (Sandy) Fairfield (Swiecicki) - July 16th, 2010
I had known Flynn since 4th grade.  She was a terrific person from day one.  Even in elementary school she showed a lot of athletic ability, and several times when I was over at her house she tried to teach me how NOT to 'throw like a girl'.  Whenever I was sick, she was the one to bring homework home for me--not an easy feat as she had to cross Washington Road to get to my house. She also drew these cute cartoon characters in class that made me crack up. Her mom and her sisters were also fun to be around. Flynn was so nice and so smart, I was sorry we never had classes together in Junior or Senior High, but her friendliness and warmth toward me never diminished.  I had heard she was ill for a very long time, and her passing has saddened me greatly.  She was really a gem--I will always remember her.
Patty Dreven - June 11th, 2010
So sad to hear about Flynn's passing.  She was a wonderful, fun, great girl!!

HUSSEY
MICHAEL "JAY"
Age 59, of Dormont, passed away Monday, January 11, 2016, peacefully in his sleep, after a valiant battle with lung cancer. Our beloved brother was a good, intelligent, strong, sweet soul. Jay always had time to lend a helping hand day or night for family or friends. He had a knack to solve problems and fix things like new. Jay grew up in Mt. Lebanon and graduated high school 1974. For several years he worked in steel mills and power plants. Afterwards, he perfected his trade, an exceptional professional painter for both commercial and residential. He always looked forward to his yearly 2-3 week camping vacation at Saranac Lake, in the Adirondacks, NY. That vacation recharged Jay for the coming work-again year ahead. He enjoyed life, poker games with his friends and would have been happy making his home in the Adirondacks. Jay was predeceased by both of our parents, Carlyle J. and Anne M. Hussey. He is survived by four siblings, Greg Hussey, Gary (Karen) Hussey, Carla (Peter) VanBuskirk and Cathy Hussey. Also survived by his nephew, Christopher Hussey; three nieces, Rachelle (Jason) Downey, Kristen (John) Sherman and Tiffany VanBuskirk. You will be greatly missed, for that we are saddened, which is eased only slightly that you are no longer suffering. Please make donations to cancer research of your choice. I think I first met Mike in 2nd or 3rd grade at Jefferson, and from then on he was in many of my classes right through to graduation from the High School. He was one of the funniest people in our class, and anywhere he went, he brightened up the tone of every occasion. What a shame he's gone so soon.

Alexandra (Sandy) Fairfield (Swiecicki) - July 16th, 2010
I was so surprised and saddened to learn Mike had passed away.  He was terrifically smart, funny, and friendly in all those killer classes we took in the AP 'clique'. He was so well liked by so many people.  We'll miss you, Mike!

I'm really sorry to hear that MIke died.  Last saw MIke when he joined us to watch the Pitt Panthers play football at the stadium back around '79.  What a friendly and nice guy he was!  I don't know how he died but it's very, very sad to read this about such a good guy passing away.

Marcelo Marques’s Obituary--Using Google Translate
REF: https://ufmg.br/comunicacao/noticias/morre-professor-marcelo-pimenta-marques-da-filosofia
06-5-1956 to 08-3-2016
Professor Marcelo Pimenta Marques passed away from malignant melanoma August 3, 2016 at the age of 60.
Marcelo Marques, the AFS student from Brazil during our senior year, was a full professor at the Department of Philosophy and the Postgraduate Program in Philosophy at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Belo Horizonte, Brazil. He left an academic legacy in which he developed teaching, research and administration programs, having trained generations of masters and doctoral students, since 1992, when he joined the University as a professor.
Marcelo’s impressive CV notes that he earned his high school diploma from Mt. Lebanon High School. Afterward, he went on to earn a bachelor's and master's degree in Philosophy from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), his home state in Brazil. Later, he earned a doctorate in Greek Philosophy from Université Marc Bloch de Strasbourg (France)—and his thesis actually won an award for the university thesis written in the best French. Following a post-doctoral year at the University of Pennsylvania, Marcelo returned to Brazil and became a full professor at his alma mater, UFMG, in Belo Horizonte.
Marcelo was an expert on the writings of Plato and Sophocles. He taught, wrote, interpreted, and translated the works of Plato and Sophocles from the original Ancient Greek into Portuguese, English, Italian, Spanish, and French. He was the author and co-author of over 20 research articles and several books on the ancient Greek philosophers, the study of ethics, and global peace. He also translated two important textbooks on Plato from English into Portuguese.
Many tributes were published by his colleagues around the world: as an expert in Ancient Greek language and Plato, he was an invited lecturer to academic conferences in Europe, Mexico, the US, India, and South America.
“We will remember him as a teacher who was passionate about his job, as an advisor who gave each student particular attention, promoting them on every occasion, as an administrator who went to great lengths to make each project feasible and solve every problem”, says a note released by the Filosofia Antiga UFMG Group. “Through his numerous articles, translations and books, we are sure that his legacy will continue to inspire us on our journeys along the paths of Philosophy”, adds the text.
Throughout the decades, Marcelo stayed in touch and visited with his American host family. Marcelo is survived by his daughter, Elisa, a grandson, seven siblings, and the family of Alexandra (Swiecicki) Fairfield, his AFS host sister.
Alexandra Swieciki Fairfield - April 22nd, 2024
We were his host family during our senior year, we had always stayed in touch and visited back and forth. He is my daughter's godfather, or he preferred to be called her 'philosophy father'. We miss him terribly as a member of our extended family. Alex

Obituary:

When I knew Kevin Martin at Jefferson when I was in fifth grade I used to jokingly call him "Kevin from Heaven."  And he would say, "I went up when I was seven and came down when I was eleven."
Tom Hill - October 21st, 2010
Kevin and I both grew up on Pinewood Drive. I first met Kevin in a carpool of first grade kids going to Jefferson Elementary, which was a bit of a hike for us when we were so little. He had a sprightly, sparkling personality, and in high school he was one of the star performers in Julian Myers' theater productions. The world is a little bit grayer without him.

Terry was a close friend of mine. Terry loved motorcycles. Terry and Charlie Cook drove out to Yuma Arizona in 1975 to see me when I was in the Marine Corps. Terry never rode a motorcycle before and I owned a 1975 Z1 900.He wanted to take it for a ride and kept stalling it. I had to engage the clutch for him to get going. The rest is history ! Miss you buddy. Love John

George Munkachy

Birth Date: 1956-03-25
Graduation year: 1974
Deceased Date: 2024-01-29
Obituary:
George Munkachy, age 67, of Prattville, Alabama, and formerly of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, passed away on January 29th, 2024 at 7:30pm surrounded by his family. George was born on March 25th, 1956, to parents Louis and Emily Munkachy in Budapest, Hungary, and arrived in the United States as a refugee with his parents as an infant. George earned his Bachelor’s degree at Duquesne University, his Master’s at Mansfield State University, and his PhD from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Professionally, George was a psychologist in the US Air Force for 20 years where he achieved the rank of Lt. Colonel and touched many lives as a counselor and educator. After leaving the military, he served with the VA for eleven years before retiring in 2020 to pursue his passions. George loved to travel with his wife Paula, and together they went on many trips and adventures far and wide. He was an avid bicycling enthusiast, logging thousands of miles across many states and countries throughout his life. George was a devout and studious Catholic, and supported the parishes at St. Joseph in Prattville and Holy Family in Montgomery as a Catechist and active member for many years. He stayed fiercely loyal to his hometown of Pittsburgh, and followed Penguins’ hockey and Steelers’ football seasons with enthusiasm. He was a hobby pianist, master barbeque pit master, family archivist, dabbled with the didgeridoo, and enjoyed singing karaoke with his family.

Above all else, George was a loving husband, father, son, and brother. In 1978 he met the love of his life, Paula Munkachy, and the very next year they were married in Ayer, Massachusetts. George and Paula had four children together: Alexander, Nicholas, Stephanie, and Rebecca Munkachy, and was “Poppy” to two grandchildren, Conor and Norah Munkachy-- all of whom were the joy of his heart. He was a gentle and playful father and grandfather, a caring and devoted husband, a steadfast friend, and a kind soul. He is predeceased by his mother Emily Munkachy, and survived by his father Louis, his wife Paula, his sister Zsuzsi, his four children, and his two grandchildren. His laughter, silliness, and kind-hearted nature will be deeply and profoundly missed by his friends and family.

We love you so much, George, and will miss you so dearly.

A visitation and reception for George will be held Friday, February 2, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Ridout's-Brown-Service Prattville Chapel, 347 E Main St, Prattville, Alabama 36067.

A funeral service and interment will be held at the St. Bernard’s Abbey in Cullman, on February 10th, and a Celebration of Life gathering will be held at his family home on April 13th in Prattville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Bernard’s Abbey or to Catholic Charities to support the Church, which brought so much meaning to his life.

We love you, George, and will miss you dearly.

Jeff Ridgway - September 6th, 2014
I likewise knew Barb from Bower Hill Church Youth Group.  Lost touch with her after High School.  I remember her as very quiet and studious, and very nice, with a lovely shy smile.  I was shocked and saddened to hear that Barb passed away, so soon.   It seems so unfair that such a nice person should leave us at such a young age.
Tom Hill - October 21st, 2010
I knew Barb mostly from the Bower Hill Church youth group, but she was in many of my classes all the way from elementary school through high school. The last time I saw Barb was when she was a year ahead of me at the Pitt Law School around 1981. Barb was a  sensible and serious girl, and since I am exactly the opposite, we had a kind of humorous bantering relationship along the way. I am so sorry to hear that she passed away so young - still in her thirties - from a sudden illness.

Carol and I became best of friends starting in Junior High. She lived up the street from me and we also attended the same church. While we were in High School, Carol went on several summer vacations with me and my family to Hilton Head Island, SC. Carol fell in love with HH and made HH her home for many years while working and raising 4 beautiful boys. Carol was a bridesmaid in my wedding and we remained friends for many years…she was a wonderful, faithful friend and I miss her dearly! So many good memories!

Carol and I worked together at a clothing store called scoop in the late seventies. She was one of the sweetest coworkers I ever had  and I just  recently learned of her passing. I have been trying to find her on Facebook. She tried to get me to visit her in Hilton Head years ago but I just wasn't able. Now I regret not making that trip. May she rest in peace and my condolences to her classmates and family.

Randy was in my homeroom throughout high school. He was easy going, friendly, and had a sense of humor. He went on to become a lawyer and I a nurse. Years down the road our paths crossed again when his wife also a nurse came to work with me in the CCU unit. We attended many social functions together. He has two great sons that are around my son's age. Sadly he had been diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma and passed away shortly afterwards.

Remembering Jack on his birthday week. When I think of Jack, I think of the Beatles, Jack's beautiful and heart-wrenching songs, his great sense of humor, his impressive black & white art, his deep caring personality, and of course, the Beatles.

Gary Schwager - May 1st, 2014
Jack and I went way back.  Our moms were best friends, which I suppose happened when we were three or four.  Truth is, I can't remember before Jack.  His mom was one of the sweetest people ever and the apple didn't fall far from the tree.  Truth is, to say Jack was one in a million would be a tremendous understatement.  It is impossible to imagine 7,000 Jack Rodneys running around in the world.  He drove me crazy when it came to his music and many of his choices, especially his career choices, with the exception of teaching, which was a great fit for him.  I suppose many in high school saw him as an odd ball, which I guess was pretty accurate.  But that was one of the big misfortunes of high school, because odd balls were, largely, not tolerated.    Because as I got older, I came to notice that some of my favorite people had some odd ball in them.  I think they were more driven by their heart and their emotions than by fitting in or simply doing what made the most sense by other people's standards.  And Jack always had people who were very close to him who knew him as a person with an enourmous heart, who felt great love for his friends, family, the kids he taught, his dreams, his art, music and for life in general.  He will be missed.
Marshall Brown - April 22nd, 2014
So sorry to hear about Jack. He and I were good friends during high school, and like many others, lost touch.  We also carpooled together for many years back and forth to Jewish Hebrew School. His parents were so nice as well. Fond memories of a ncie guy. May he rest in peace.
